Precepts and Practices of the Sodality of the Most Sacred Heart

Precepts

This Sodality is charged with loving, praying, and offering reparation for all human souls that are not living in the state of grace and in the fullness of Jesus Christ. We seek to immerse ourselves in and to reflect on Our Lord’s Most Sacred Heart which is filled with compassion and longing for all souls, especially those that have turned to the world and its promises for their joy and fulfillment.

The Sodalists further acknowledge that by giving our hearts to our Lord and allowing Him to live and love through us, we can more perfectly love those around us. It is thorough fervent prayer and the reception of His love that we will strive to walk in forgiveness, humility and sacrifice with the ultimate goal of bringing our Lord’s love, mercy and care to those around us.

Sodalists resolve to be faithful to the above Precepts and to the following Practices:

  1. Daily:
    1. Praying Daily the Morning Offering Prayer and Angelus
    2. Devote at least a half an hour to mental prayer, and if possible, recite the Most Holy Rosary, Chaplet of Divine Mercy or the Divine Office
    3. Be present, if they can, at the Sacrifice of the Mass
    4. In the evening, carefully examine their conscience, making the Ignatian Examen, and make a fervent Act of Contrition.
  2. Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation at least once a month
  3. Participating regularly in corporal works of mercy

The Sodality will support and encourage the following:

  1. First Friday Mass and Sacred Heart Devotions
  2. Enthronement of families/homes to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
  3. Retreats and Faith formation activities
    1. Weekly Scripture/Faith Studies
    2. Quarterly Mornings of Reflection
  4. Eucharistic Adoration
  5. Divine Mercy Devotion
  6. To uphold and promote the family, as an “integral part of our Lord’s heavenly plan for humanity.” -Pope Francis
